"How 'bout cookin something up for me...."
(but only if you tell me what!!!)
When I lived at home and all growing up my mom always used to bug us to tell her what we wanted to eat for dinner. She always said she didn't mind cooking but hated deciding what to cook. We never understood it, but having 5 kids she usually made us each take a night and pick what we were having or it was leftovers or fend for yourself.
Now that I am married and cook more often, I totally get it and I HATE it!
You feel me?
I don't mind cooking at all. In fact, although I may not be too great at it, I actually love it. But....NOT when I have to decide what to make. I HATE trying to think of something hoping that Shayne will like what it is I choose, and I HATE trying to be creative and not repeat things from week to week. I HATE trying to make sure it's a balanced meal as well as one that is at least somewhat healthy. I HATE it, I HATE it, I HATE it!!! So, of course everyday I ask Shayne what he wants only for him to say "I don't care" (just like I used to with my mom, what goes around comes around I guess). I even give him options and sometimes I still get an "I don't care, make anything" Well if that were truly the case it would be something simple like grilled cheese but of course that's too easy, not balanced, not healthy blah blah blah - you catch my drift?
So mom as you read this (I'm sure with a smile on your face) I can say now that I totally get it, and I'm sorry I didn't before!!
I think I need to hire someone to write me up a meal plan. Is that even a job? If it's not, it should be - people would pay good money for that.
So please one of you - somebody, anybody out there make my wildest dreams come true and write me up a meal plan for the next year, otherwise I fear we might starve, k - thanks! Love ya!

I hear ya! We go through the same thing just about daily!!! Wouldn't it be nice if we had someone that did it all for us? And is was a good, healthy and balanced meal....we can dream right:)?
Wait...did yo steal my journal and copy it to your bog!? This is SO one of my pet peeves too Sherri! Drives me nuts. We actually started doing weekly meal plans...but I never stick to it, I think I'll just try and win the lottery so I can eat out every night for the rest of my life, wanna come?!
i ditto EVERYTHING you just said!
I hear ya & catch your drift. I feel the exact way. It's hard to think of different meals and being creative, healthly. When you get that meal plan - just send it to me too :)
Ditto. I tell Mike that deciding what to eat is more than half a battle of getting dinner on the table. I usually write down the menu of the week when I am feeling "it", so that I don't have to be panicking couple of hours before the dinner time...
(which is the case this afternoon.)
I struggle with it all the time. I don't think it gets any easier...I'm hoping to master it before I get a household of kids. I try to make meals during the week that uses some of the same ingredients (fridge space is limited). If fridge/freezer space isn't a problem for you, some people like making double of a recipe and then freezing the rest for a meal another time.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a live-in chef? Sign me up!
It is the worst! I have found a few good websites that I steal from for ideas but it still gets so old!
That is so true! I hate deciding what to make for dinner. I always get the same response from Glenn, and if I ask my kids the response is always the same (CORNDOGS, yuck!) If you stumble onto some great meal ideas make sure you pass them our way!
Maybe we should save you from a day of having to be creative and have you guys over for dinner. I'm serious. After 2 years in the same city, you've never been over. It's a shame! After living like 100 feet from you in SLC, this should be a natural thing... We're slackers.
A possible solution: Get the cookbook "Life's on Fire Cooking for the rushed" has 12 weeks of healthly balanced suppers. And it tells you calories, fat, protien & carbs. Also gives you a grocery list for each week. And classifies the recipes by speed ex. 30 min to make 60 min. The recipes are good too. and they all meet the Canada Food guide. Book is written by a a dietian & nurse. When I actually use this cookbook it works really well. The also have a book for summer cooking on the grill. The book is Canadian but I'm sure you can find it online.
Good Luck!
jana
I totally feel you. I am in your very same boat!
PAIN.
Those good old Canadians always finding solutions to things!! I knew I was one of you for a reason :) Thanks Jana I just may have to try that!
I echo the freezer idea...don't you have an extra freezer in the garage? I love to make a huge pot of soup, stew, or spaghetti sauce and freeze it in smaller ziploc bags. Then on those nights when you just don't know what to make, it's already done. Good luck and let me know how that Canadian book turns out!
Amen to this!! I HATE when Sunday night comes around b/c I know it means... planning out the meals. Maybe I'll just have 5 kids like your mom to use them solely for the purpose of planning out my meals. ;) Ok... maybe 2 is enough. ha
And thank you too to Jana. Sorry but I read her comment and I'm quite excited about it! :)
